Brass Eye
I was reminded, in the pub yesterday, of how good that series was.
Brass Eye was (well, still is) a fantastic satire on TV news, and if you haven’t seen it you’ve missed out. It’s wonderfully good at saying in a very serious (and alarmed) tone of voice things that, once you think about them for a second or two, just make no sense at all.
Its use of bogus statistics is particularly effective. My favourite is this one from the Animals episode (QuickTime movie, 820K).
Incidentally, it was an absolute nightmare to grab that short snippet off the DVD. I ended up having to export the video and sound separately, combine them in iMovie, then export the resulting movie as a QuickTime movie so I could edit it down to just the snippet I wanted. Pah.
