Christianity depresses me

Time to read some more Real Live Preacher.

From diluvian_brood in this comment: “The whole point of free will is so that people can be condemned as sinners”. Wow. diluvian_brood, your God is such a bastard.

From the same thread, starchaser57: “I really don’t think I am going to waste much more time with this. You are asking questions which I have answered over and over.” The first person who points out to me an instance where someone’s response to an argument is substantially “I’ve explained this already, I’m not going to bother replying any more”, and where they’re not just ducking the question because they don’t know how to answer, gets a lifetime[1] supply of doughnuts.

It’s depressing. I only stumbled onto this debate because Gareth and Helen linked to it, and although I’ve had a bit of fun in the comments, it’s still not enough to make up for the hatred and blinkered bigotry that crops up in some of the comments.

Real Life Preacher, as often, has an answer to this, in his recent post about memorising the New Testament:

You can’t know everything you’d like to know. You can’t do everything you’d like to do. You can’t read everything you’d like to read.

You must hold onto some things and let go of others. Learning to make that choice is one of the big lessons of this life.

Have I mentioned that you should read Real Live Preacher? I believe I have. Well, I’ll do it again. He reminds us why people originally thought religion was a good idea.
