Fun with compiling stuff

I’m running a web server on my laptop, with all the trimmings, because I can.

I’ve installed Apache 2 on my machine here, only to discover that HTML::Mason won’t run for whichever reason. Happily, the laptop is still comparatively untouched, so I’m installing a new version of Apache, Perl etc. on that - but being slightly less bleeding-edge.

The weird thing is that the laptop is sitting nearby, but I’m logged onto it from this machine here. So I occasionally start typing, wonder why nothing happens, then realise that I have to tell the laptop to wake up from sleep mode first…

(Incidentally, I can go to the laptop’s web server by typing in http://Breviloquence.local/ in the location bar of any web browser, which is a nice use of Rendezvous and Airport.)

The best bit? OK, so I have to compile everything by hand, I can’t just randomly download packages - we’re not quite there yet - but, dammit, I’m using a Mac and I can recompile Perl, Apache and all the trimmings, and it works.
