Saddam Hussein has been captured

Let the Dean-bashing begin.

Saddam Hussein has been captured. Hooray! What does this mean?

I have no idea. It’s too early to tell.

Here’s a few questions, though.

Did Saddam Hussein have anything to do with the resistance movement in Iraq? And, if so, will his capture dissuade members of his movement to carry out military movements against the US? Who knows, now?

Saddam is apparently going to stand trial. How is this going to work? What are the rules going to be, who are the judge, jury, prosecutors and defence going to be?

What’s the involvement of the intelligence community going to be? By definition, anything that gets said under oath, during a trial, has to be public, so if the intelligence agencies want to find something out from Saddam, they have to find out before the trial. But who’s going to be allowed to grill him, and how?

Notice, incidentally, the irony of Joe Lieberman calling his capture a “day of triumph of glory for anyone in the world who cares about […] human rights” - and then going on to insist that he must face the death penalty.
