Serial marriages

I’ve decided that I’m going to finally write the weddingometer - basically, a web page that tells you how long Cleodhna and I have been married, and how that compares to other people you know (mostly celebrities).

Obviously, the first thing to do, after the trivial hurdle of working out how long we have been married (8 months and 14 days according to Date::Calc’s reckonings), is to collect lots of data on how long people have been married.

It looks like the IMDB is my friend. It also has quotes from such serial spouses as Micky Rooney: “When I say I do, the Justice of the Peace replies, ‘I know, I know.’ I’m the only man in the world whose marriage license reads, ‘To Whom it May Concern.’” (There’s more at his bio.)

So I’m going to start at film stars - and once I’ve done those, I’ll consider other famous serial brides and grooms, such as, for instance, Henry VIII. (Kudos to some website for reminding me of that.)
