Two occasions of pleasing unsubtleness

Involving dogs and books - but, thankfully, not both at the same time.

The first one was this morning, at round about 9am, when we realised that there was nothing to do but get up. (We both work from home, so that’s not the no-brainer less fortunate people might think it was.) After all, Laszlo had just decided to jump onto the bed with a bone and start knawing away at it. There’s an irregular pattern of loud crunches as his teeth grind away at it, followed by a brief period of slurping as he licks up any dislodged fragments, and then the whole thing repeats itself, and you just cannot sleep through it.

Even if a large wolf dog who manages to take up the entire width of the bed without using his tail doesn’t happen to also be lying on your feet.

And the day ended with my looking at the dust jacket for the latest Terry Pratchett novel. Hmm, I thought, £17.99 or CAN$39.95 - I bet you anything there’s some serious price-gouging going on here, I though, chastened by the standard computer industry practice of taking the US price, crossing out the $ sign and putting in a £, and using that for the UK price. So, I put £17.99 into the calculator and converted it to Canadian Dollars.

Hmmph. $39.80. So much for that theory.
