Mac OS X Mail
It’s almost good, except when it’s a complete and utter failure
I experimented with Mac OS X Mail again tonight. I’d previously struggled with levels of quoting, perhaps because you couldn’t modify quoting levels before, or perhaps because I’d missed the option. In any case, it looks like messing with quoting levels is now piss-easy, with easy keyboard shortcuts to boot.
Unfortunately, despite all of its promises, Mail does not currently thread messages. This is vital if you deal with mailing lists. So, at the moment, it is unusable to me.
According to Apple’s website, Mail will finally support threading in Mac OS X 10.3 Panther. They have the amazing cheek to trumpet this is an amazing new feature, as opposed to catching up on other GUI mail clients from 1994, but, hey, they might actually do proper threading on references and message-ID, and there might be some other cool stuff.
For the moment, though, I’m going to have to stick with Entourage.
Incidentally, Apple Mail doesn’t use HTML mail; instead it uses text/enriched. Anyone know how many mail clients support this?
