Mexico frees car auction victim
"the drugs were apparently in the car when he bought it."
OK, so the guy buys a car in the US, travels to Mexico, gets arrested (I’m not sure why), and the police find a whole bunch of marijuana in his car. He successfully pleads innocent, and says the drugs were in his car when he bought it. (Given that you’d normally smuggle those drugs the other way round, you can see why the DEA-equivalent would readily buy the theory that this wasn’t intentional.)
But wait, it gets better. He bought the car - full of drugs - from the US Customs, in a Government auction. The rather embarassed US are now promising that they’ll, perhaps, give cars they’ve impounded a once-over by sniffer dogs.
