Pub quiz geography questions
Name Kurdistan's neighbours - a trickier question than we thought.
Tonight’s pub quiz included an intriguing question: name the five countries that border Kurdistan. We thought about it, and drew a number of sketch maps on bits of scrap paper to try and work out which ones they would be. We ended up reckoning it was Iraq, Iran, Syria, Armenia and Azerbaijan. (These last two in fact border Iran, not Iraq.)
Imagine our surprise, then, when the answers came out, and the neighbouring countries were listed as China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and so forth.
Turns out they’d asked for Kyrgyzstan, the ex-Soviet central Asian republic, not Kurdistan, the vaguely autonomous part of Iraq.
We won anyway. As well we should have, in a team of 7.
