The best quality of a blogger

Apart from being on Dave Winer's blogroll, naturally.

Is to know when not to blog.

I have already refrained twice, tonight, from posting, because I felt that, all things considered, nobody was interested in what I had to say at that particular moment.

I stand by that. I think that the greatest challenge to established blog authors, in face of the generalisation of blogging from people like Blogger, TypePad and, heaven forbid, AOL, is to maintain a high signal to noise ratio. To steal a newspaper analogy for a moment, that means that every author must become his or her own editor.

Which isn’t necessarily that bad.

(i don’t believe, for a moment, that I am an A-list blogger. Frankly, call me F-list and I’d be happy. That doesn’t stop me prescribing blogger practices.)
