The Book of Mormon - "Another book I'm glad I didn't copyedit"

From the comments: "You get the real impression God was being paid by the word here, don't you?"

A full and frank description (and attempted elucidation) of the Book of Mormon’s description of currency conversion - described in the comments as “like Leviticus and Numbers but worse”. Perhaps the most telling extract:

“They altered their reckoning and their measure, according to the minds and the circumstances of the people, in every generation”

And it ended up a god-damn mess.

Really, though, read the comments - they’re damn good. Grammar nazis will like them (and I know some of those read this blog - Gareth, for instance, has confessed to as much in his own damn livejournal, and that’s before I start mentioning the OED people).
